About Dubai International
The Middle East's flagship hub and one of the world's busiest airports for international traffic.
Dubai International is the home base of Emirates and the world's busiest airport for international passenger traffic, handling around 92 million passengers a year across three terminals. Emirates and Qantas codeshare partners use Terminal 3 (the largest single terminal in the world by area); flydubai and most low-cost regional carriers use Terminal 2; older Terminal 1 handles a mix of international airlines.
The airport runs around the clock — there's no night curfew — and is one of the few major airports where the bulk of traffic is genuinely connecting rather than origin-and-destination. Emirates' hub-and-spoke model means many travellers transit DXB without leaving the airport.
For UK travellers parking here, the typical use case is a short business trip, a long-haul leisure stay (one week to a month) where the parking saving over an off-airport lot is meaningful, or expat travel home for several weeks.
Getting to DXB
All the practical access info — by car, train, coach and otherwise.
Sheikh Rashid Road (E11/D89) provides direct access to all three terminals. From Downtown Dubai, around 15 minutes; from Dubai Marina, 25–35 minutes depending on traffic.
The Dubai Metro Red Line serves Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 directly with their own stations. Trains run from around 5am to midnight, every 8 minutes during the day — the cheapest way into the city.
RTA local buses serve all terminals from across Dubai. The Express Bus to Abu Dhabi runs every 30 minutes from Terminal 1 and 3.
Limousine and chauffeur services are everywhere — pre-book to avoid airport surcharges. Uber and Careem operate from designated pickup zones.
How parking works at Dubai International
Dubai Airports operates official short-term and long-term car parks at all three terminals. Long-term rates are competitive but rise sharply for stays beyond 7 days. Valet service is available at premium rates.
Off-airport valet operators serve Dubai International from the surrounding business district — they're particularly competitive for stays of 7+ days, and many include vehicle wash and inspection on return.
Tips travellers wish they'd known
- Allow extra time at peak hours (early morning and late evening) — security and immigration can queue heavily.
- Terminal 3 is huge — internal walks of 15+ minutes are normal. Get to your gate earlier than you think.
- Off-airport valet operators typically beat Dubai Airports' own valet service by 20–40% on weekly stays.
- Returning at peak hours? A 15-minute meet-and-greet exit fee applies, so call your operator after baggage claim, not before.
DXB questions, answered
The questions our 24/7 team gets asked most about flying from Dubai International.
Which terminal does my airline use?+
Emirates, Qantas, JetBlue, Linha Aérea and a handful of partner codeshares use Terminal 3. flydubai uses Terminal 2 (sometimes Terminal 3 for codeshares). Most other international carriers — including British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Lufthansa, Air France, Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific — use Terminal 1.
Is there an exit fee?+
An AED 15 charge applies for the first 15 minutes at the meet-and-greet area. Beyond that, additional airport charges may apply, so coordinate with your operator after collecting bags.

Three hours for international long-haul. DXB security and immigration peak heavily morning and night.
