About Aberdeen
The North-East Scotland gateway and home to one of the world's busiest heliports.
Aberdeen Airport sits at Dyce, just outside the granite city, and is the principal aviation gateway for north-east Scotland. It's home to one of the world's busiest heliports — handling tens of thousands of rotary-wing movements a year for North Sea offshore oil and gas operations — alongside scheduled passenger services that handled around 2.3 million travellers in 2025.
Passenger services are led by Loganair, KLM, easyJet and British Airways, with the route map mixing UK domestic, North Sea oil-and-gas business connections (Stavanger, Bergen, Esbjerg), and short-haul European leisure during the summer.
The airport's compact terminal and quiet schedule (passenger flights are concentrated either side of the helicopter rush hours) means door-to-gate times are short.
Getting to ABZ
All the practical access info — by car, train, coach and otherwise.
Argyll Road off the A96 — signposted from the AWPR (Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route). From Aberdeen city centre, around 20–25 minutes; from Inverurie, 25 minutes.
Dyce station is a 10-minute walk or short bus ride from the terminal. Direct trains run to Aberdeen Central (10–15 minutes) and Inverness.
Stagecoach service 727 (the JET Connect) runs from Aberdeen Bus Station and Aberdeen Rail Station every 20 minutes during the day.
The airport is unusually well connected by helicopter — North Sea operators (Bristow, CHC, NHV) base their fleets here for offshore energy duty.
How parking works at Aberdeen
Official car parks are Premium (next to the terminal), Short Stay (multi-storey) and Long Stay (a 5-minute shuttle). All three are operated by the airport.
Off-airport supply is more limited than at the larger airports but several operators serve Aberdeen, mainly along the A96 and Argyll Road. Independent rates typically beat the airport's own long-stay by 20–35%.
Tips travellers wish they'd known
- Helicopter operations peak between 6am–9am and 4pm–7pm — fixed-wing passenger flights interleave around these.
- JET Connect bus 727 is the cheapest public-transport option from central Aberdeen.
- Long-stay shuttle services are reliable but verify late-night hours if you're returning after midnight.
- Premium parking is genuinely close to check-in and reasonable value for offshore workers on short rotations.
- Winter travellers: Aberdeen sees more disruption from snow and freezing fog than southern airports — allow extra time December–February.
ABZ questions, answered
The questions our 24/7 team gets asked most about flying from Aberdeen.
Why is Aberdeen so important for helicopters?+
It's the main fixed-base for offshore oil-and-gas helicopter operations to North Sea rigs. Several operators are based here.
Is there a rail station at Aberdeen Airport?+
Dyce station is nearby and connected by a 10-minute walk or short bus ride; trains run to Aberdeen Central and Inverness.
Are there long-haul flights from Aberdeen?+
Connections via Amsterdam (KLM), London Heathrow (BA) and seasonal direct services. Year-round long-haul direct from ABZ is limited.
Is parking expensive?+
Mid-priced. Off-airport park-and-ride is the cheapest option for stays of 3+ days. Premium parking is a sensible choice for short business trips.
How early should I arrive?+
Two hours for short-haul. Domestic and Norwegian flights can be slightly tighter — 90 minutes is often enough.
Is winter weather an issue?+
More than at southern airports — fog and snow can cause delays. Most flights operate normally.
